Signal transduction is an expanding field. There are many areas of signal transduction that are under the focus of scientists all over the globe. However oxidant signaling has been of the greatest priority because of its direct involvement with human diseases. In the drinking water industry, the primary goal is to provide the community with water that is both safe to drink and aesthetically acceptable. therefore, disinfection of the drinking water must be carried out to destroy the harmful organisms (pathogens). Ozone is a strong oxidant can replace chlorine that has been used as a disinfectant in drinking water for a period of one hundred years. Similar to chlorination, ozonation process may produce some harmful disinfection by-products (DBP). Bromate (BrO3-) formation by the ozonation of bromide containing water is considered as a very critical issue in drinking water because its carcinogenic effects. So, bromate removal is a key scientific issue in drinking water or any water contaminated by bromate. The maximum contaminant level (MCL) allowable for bromate is 10 g/L as recommended by USEPA. Several techniques are being applied in attempts to reduce the levels of bromate in drinking water supplies, including filtration, UV irradiation, photocatalytic decomposition, activated carbon adsorption and others. This book discusses if nanotechnology could also help in bromate removal using different types of CNTs or not.
Nickel as heavy metal can generate free radicals directly from molecular oxygen in a two step process to produce O2.-. The ROS, as they react to majority of the organism molecules, are able to interfere with the biological processes causing several diseases, mutations, aging and the other alterations in the body. The balance between the oxidant and antioxidant species will able to obtain the conditions to a better performance of its functions, considering that a disturbance in this balance can result in a range of pathological process. L-ascorbic acid is hydro soluble and act like reducing agent (electron donor) and also acts against the free radicals including singlet oxygen. The -tocopherol, situated near the cytochrome P450 (cyt P450) in the membrane phospholipid, sweep the free radicals formed in cyt P450. Research findings in author s laboratory on nickel toxicities and protective role of L-ascorbic acid and -tocopherol to stabilize endogenous antioxidant status are discussed in details in this book.

With growing industrialization and fossil fuel consumption ground level ozone concentration are likely to increase in future but it is not known how the medicinal plants are going to respond to this inevitable factor. This study was taken up with the purpose of studying the response of some important local medicinal plants against ozone stress.

Ancistrocladaceae is one such monogeneric family with about 25 species of lianas include palaeotropical climbing plants, found in lowland to submontane, wet to seasonal evergreen or swamp forests. Interest in the family is due to its unique alkaloid napthylquinone alkaloids. The drugs obtained from these plants show antiviral, antimalarial, ant ineoplastic like activities. The book herein describes a methodical resource on seasonal variation in different biochemical parameters of A. heyneanus. It also enlightens the scope and gives protocols for in vitro production of callus and micropropagated plants. Total phenolic, flavonoid content and anti oxidant potential of A. heyneanus was studied. Efficiency of extraction with to yield optimum level of betulinic acid was carried. Confirmation for betulinic acid was done using different analytical methods TLC, FT-IR and FT-Raman.
